2019’s PANTONE color of the year has been named Living Coral. This “vibrant, yet mellow” hue of red symbolizes intense emotions as it’s known for optimism and warmth but is also is mellow enough that it doesn’t overpower the senses.
Often, we see coral in images of a breathtaking evening sunset with streaks of coral against a dusky sky. So, it’s no surprise that Coral can create responsive moods in us. In fact, Leatrice Eiseman the Executive Director of the PANTONE Color Institute, says, “…the humanizing and heartening qualities displayed by the convivial Living Coral hit a responsive chord [with consumers].”
Research shows that to humans the color coral can spark moods of Optimism, Warmth, Playfulness, Energy, Expressive, Cheerful, Reflectiveness, Soothing, and Vibrancy. Which does it spark for you?
For me, Living Coral reminds me of the real coral found in our beautiful oceans. Which inspires one of my favorite color combinations, vivid blues from the ocean and the soft red hue of Living Coral. (Such as one of my favorite pieces available now – the necklace and earring set pictured here.)
This color combination has inspired many of my jewelry collections of coral and turquoise or the calming stone of Larimar. Larimar is a beautiful light blue colored stone mined in only one square kilometer in the entire world… but that is a story for another post.
Here are some other unexpected color combinations using this “vibrant, yet mellow” hue you can use to spark your creativity year-round. Often this color has been seen in spring and summer clothing collections. While I believe we will see much more Coral offerings year-round this year, these color combinations will help you get more mileage out of your coral clothing and jewelry pieces.
I will also be adding new pieces to feature this beautiful and versatile color to the site throughout the year so stay tuned. Ensure you have signed up for the email list to be on the notification list for new releases.
